w ell, i'll be going now.
This page is dedicated to my collection of books, or rather ones that I own physically. I’m not able to keep an actual bookshelf so much of these are kept in closets and drawers. Maybe someday I’ll update this page with pictures of a neat and clean looking bookshelf! But for today, we’ll both have to settle for this. At the time of publishing this page, I have 33 books listed, with more hidden somewhere else?
ALL THE MURMURING BONES | BY A.G. SLATTER Fairy Tale/Contemporary Fantasy A modern take on sea horror, the prose is long and verbose in a spellbinding way but I found nothing of value in any of the characters. Maybe I just don’t relate to this kind of story anymore? Who knows
AMERICAN GODS | BY NEIL GAIMAN Urban Fantasy/Mythology And FUCK Neil Gaiman for the last time
ANGELS & DEMONS | BY DAN BROWN
Thriller/Mystery/Crime Fiction
Fun fact: I have been attempting to get rid of this book for about 7 years now. I hate this book. It won’t leave me alone.
ASH | BY MALINDA LO Young Adult/LGBTQ Retelling Lyrical and engaging, I’ve re-read Ash multiple times and loved it each time.
BREVERTON’S PHANTASMAGORIA: A COMPENDIUM OF MONSTERS, MYTHS, AND LEGENDS | BY TERRY BREVERTON Reference/Folklore The ultimate coffee table book. I love leaving it out and seeing who picks it out, but I’ve never read it in its entirety myself.
THE COMPLETE GRIMM’S FAIRY TALES | BY THE GRIMM BROTHERS, JOSEF SCHAR
Fairy Tale/Anthology
A well-loved anthology of classic fairy tales. I got this the same year I was gifted The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Because of that, I associate it with that game.
EMPRESS | BY SHAN SA Historical Fiction/Drama This was the first book to ever make an impact on my writing. I still love it and thumb through my favorite passages from time to time.
FIND YOUR GODDESS | BY SKYE ALEXANDER
Reference/Mythology
I picked this up for easy reference but I’ve largely found it useless. It’s pretty, though.
FRAGMENTS OF HORROR | BY JUNJI ITO Horror/Anthology A short collection of one chapter horror stories by the legendary Junji Ito. I adore the artistic touches on the cover.
FRANKENSTEIN | BY MARY SHELLEY Gothic Horror/Fiction A dog-eared to hell and back, beaten up copy that’s covered in highlights, color-coded post-its and has clearly been with me everywhere. I keep it in my purse because… well, yeah.
FROM HERE TO ETERNITY: IN SEARCH OF THE GOOD DEATH | BY CAITLIN DOUGHTY Travel/Anthropology I fell in love with Doughty’s books just in time to grab this when it dropped! The hardcover with the dust jacket is simply beautiful. It’s been an invaluable asset in learning more about death culture around the world.
THE GOODLY SPELLBOOK | BY LADY PASSION, STEVE RASMUSSEN Witchcraft/Paganism Wildly racist. I picked this up at the height of my hunger for more books on paganism and was pretty disappointed.
HOMESTUCK, BOOK 1: ACT 1 & ACT 2 | BY ANDREW HUSSIE Adventure/Comedy Well, it’s homestuck
HOMESTUCK, BOOK 2: ACT 3 & INTERMISSION | BY ANDREW HUSSIE Adventure/Comedy Well, it’s homestuckx2
HOMESTUCK, BOOK 3: ACT 4 | BY ANDREW HUSSIE Adventure/Comedy Well, it’s homestuckx3
INNER WITCH | BY GABRIELA HERSTIK Witchcraft/Paganism An easy to pick up reference that I didn’t get much out of otherwise.
THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: TWILIGHT PRINCESS VOL 1 | BY AKIRA HIMEKAWA Adventure/Dark Fantasy I found this for like a dollar at a local second hand shop.
THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: TWILIGHT PRINCESS VOL 3 | BY AKIRA HIMEKAWA Adventure/Dark Fantasy They were missing the second volume at the second hand shop, but that’s fine by me! Just having them is enough for me. I’m sure I can get volume 2 another time.
THE LOCKED TOMB #1: GIDEON THE NINTH | BY TAMSYN MUIR Sci-fi/Fantasy Shockingly good. I’m still blown away by how much I adored Gidon The Ninth.
THE LOCKED TOMB #2: HARROW THE NINTH | BY TAMSYN MUIR Sci-fi/Fantasy
THE LUMINARIES | BY ELEANOR CATTON Historical Fiction/Mystery
THE LUNAR CHRONICLES #1: CINDER | BY MARISSA MEYER Young Adult Fantasy/Romance/Science Fiction
MEMOIRS OF A GEISHA | BY ARTHUR GOLDEN Historical Fiction/Romance I am not proud of this purchase lmao
MERMAIDS | BY SKYE ALEXANDER Reference/Folklore I honestly bought this because I thought it would look good on a bookshelf. I don’t remember enjoying it much.
PERCY JACKSON AND THE OLYMPIANS 1: THE LIGHTNING THIEF | BY RICK RIORDAN
Young Adult Fiction/High Fantasy
This what yall r on about…
PRACTICAL MAGIC | BY ALICE HOFFMAN Fiction/Contemporary Fantasy Meandering but gorgeously written. Taught me the value of spending 2 pages describing the mood of a scene.
SMOKE GETS IN YOUR EYES & OTHER LESSONS FROM THE CREMATORY | BY CAILIN DOUGHTY Nonfiction/Anthropology A myriad of one-liners, heartfelt anecdotes and love letters to the people who survive their loved ones.
STARDUST | BY NEIL GAIMAN Fantasy/Adventure
THÉ TRE ILLUMINATA #1: EYES LIKE STARS | BY LISA MANTCHEW Young Adult Fantasy/Romance
TODD ALLISON AND THE PETUNIA VIOLET, VOL. 1 | BY NOZMO Historical Fiction/Mystery That’s right, it exists! Nozmo is mostly known on the internet for that time she scammed people out of doujinshi, and was accused of a scam Kickstarter. Well, I have my Kickstarter stuff, so…But that’s admittedly not what people care about, is it?
TOMIE | BY JUNJI ITO Horror/Fantasy A stunning hardcover omnibus of each of Ito’s Tomie shorts.
WHITE OLEANDER | BY JANET FITCH Contemporary Fiction/Drama
WICKED | BY GREGORY MAGUIRE Sci-fi/Fantasy/Adult Retelling I never finished this and just simply don’t have an interest in doing so.
